Yes ofcourse, I've been trading since the early 80's
Convertible debenture holders (having advanced knowledge that diluted shares will be issued to them from the A/S into the O/S as part of debt repayments for PIPE loan) short the shares down so as to receive MORE SHARES upon debt to equity conversions, at a significant discount to the top bid.
They then turn around and SELL these shares at a 100%+ profit, causing further downdrafts in the pps of the common stock.
When are you proposing this PIPE took place, and why would an ex CEO offer an 81% premium (prior to the big tank) and then follow through AFTER the big tank and hire attorney's to investigate the company?
In any event, short interest of this magnitude, with this type of "juicy story" , should cause some pretty significant trading activity that favors long trades - especially in the event that the company issues a PR confirming that talks are underway.
I guess we will see how this all plays out.
