If one considers the energy alone expended by fabrication of new vehicles it does seem a little ridiculous IMO and perhaps and attempt to create some kind of "busy work" ala stimuli. I say this knowing well that the steel can be recycled and that the hope of some is to put higher gas milage vehilces on the road. However, as someone who takes pride in being able to work on and maintain my own vehicle it seems plenty wasteful to me as well. Aside from recycling meeasures, I would also like to know how public realistic information on the implications of toxic waste generated from current battery technology in any proposed cars of the future is.
