Re: Wrote Mar 62 puts @ .55
Half of me thinks that it's just a political fabrication to blame the other party.
The other half is seeing the effects already at work. We're already facing budget cuts in Defense, which I equate to a kick in a testicle. The added sequester (additional cuts) is like getting kicked in the second testicle. We've already taken actions to save money, the ultimate being to postpone deployments. We normally have a two carrier presence in the Gulf, now it's just one, and the others don't know when they will deploy because they aren't sure if the money will be there to upkeep the ships/aircraft. Ultimately, the contractors will get screwed, the force will lessen, and the # of military personnel will have to decrease. If there is a crisis, we will be more reliant on the UN and coalition forces and will no longer be the big man on campus, just an equal. Some are in favor of that, some aren't. (other cuts we are doing: no more blue angels, no more fly overs for sporting events, no more travel for conferences, currently there's a hiring freeze for the DoD)
How this will affect the market? Who knows. But since the market is news driven these days, sequester will be seen negatively, so expect a short term sharp drop if it happens. Just my opinion of course
