Hybrid--fundamental & technical. I look for good technical setups in stocks that I think are fundamentally undervalued. I always try to be one of the first to enter a trade, and one of the first to take a profit. I often look for near term catalysts to drive a stock forward. I tend to favor technicals over fundamentals for penny stocks, since valuation is difficult and market value can differ from intrinsic value for some time.
I believe the key to long-term investing success is consistency and compound growth. I would rather choose a high probability trade for a small gain than a high risk trade for a large potential gain. I will not deviate from this approach despite any large windfall gains. A profit is hard earned and should always be invested systematically. The biggest mistake I see traders make is not sticking to a pre-defined strategy and letting emotions rule their judgment. I have spent close to 10,000 hours studying the market and lost a lot of money to start. I highly recommend that new traders use simulated accounts for at least the first two years of trading.
I am mostly self-taught and have developed about 10 personal trading strategies. I back-test these strategies rigorously and use custom real-time scans to help me identify setups. I use some automation but also believe successful trading involves a degree of intuition.
